MATE 1.4 released

The team is proud to announce the release of MATE 1.4.

Changes in 1.4:

Numerous bug fixes
mate-keyring and libmatekeyring backends updated and now integrate properly
caja-dropbox package now available
New themes added to mate-notification-daemon
Removed indicator-applet-session
File sharing now available via bluetooth
Added option to use fast alt-tabbing when compositing is enabled in marco
mate-icon-theme-faenza now available
mate-character-map now available
mate-screensaver now supports GDM user switching
Removed nyancat from the mate-desktop about dialog
Forked libwnck (now libmatewnck)
Caja improvements:
- Restored toggle button for text based location bar
- Bookmarks can now be opened in the places side pane via the enter and space keys
- Added a button to get the difference between files in the file conflict dialog

Important:
We are experiencing difficult with packages.mate-desktop.org. During the update process, if you encounter connection problems, please use repo.mate-desktop.org instead of packages.mate-desktop.org/repo/. Also, please note that it is repo.mate-desktop.org and NOT repo.mate-desktop.org/repo/. If you are a Linux Mint user and make this change, remember to change /etc/apt/preferences as well.

  After installing, I changed my desktop background paper to a slideshow one. After rebooting, my bottom taskbar was missing. So I ended up doing a sudo reboot. Opened clonezilla and restored desktop. Then, I can make and installed 1.4 again. And seems to be ok so far. I did not try changing my background (wallpaper) again to slideshow. I was afraid it would do the samething again. But, maybe on installation, something didn’t install right the first time.

I’m so pleased to hear that you keep on forging ahead. The last week-end, I downloaded the sources from your depo and installed it on Slackware64-current. Everything went smooth, a straightforward and clean install. Many thanks to all the persons who were involved in this release, to those who have spent time and have scratched their heads in order to provide us with a true desktop environnement for PCs.

I found a solution for the brown theme and i’m gonna publish it for helping who needs:
Ambiance & Radiance themes were updated on July 27 with many new buttons colors and you can find them here:

http://www.ravefinity.com/p/download-ambiance-radiance-colors.html

You can install them using Gdebi and then find them where usually go to select a theme in gnome2.
Instead of Humanity icons i chose AwOken from Gnome-look.org

- Bluetooth was broken in Mate 1.2 (but Blueman app was working), now in Mate 1.4 bluetooth is still broken (and blueman is now broken too)

Anyway, it is a bit faster. Good Work. Keep it and maybe do some “nasty workaround” with bluetooth.

WOOHOO!!! MATE made it to opensuse! The world feels right again! My laptop works perfectly and seamlessly when switching from docked with two external monitors to undocked and back again. KDE 4.9.X can’t do that and neither can gnome3. AWESOME!

P.S. My bluetooth headphones and mouse work great too!

I can’t emphasize enough how much you’ve made Linux fun for me to use again. When Ubuntu and others abandoned the Gnome 2 DE that I loved, I thought I’d be stuck with Windows (only) for the foreseeable future, so terrible were Unity, Gnome 3, and KDE 4 (IMHO, of course).

Since switching back to Mint with Mate, I can one again be productive and have fun using the OS I love.
