UPDATE 11/11/2012:
I’ve been told that the repo is back up. I’ve also been made aware that the Dropbox repo and the repo included in Fedora conflict and can make the desktop unusable. Please consult #fedora-mate for help if you plan on moving from one repo to the other.
Original Post:
It’s been brought to our attention that the Fedora repo that is hosted on Dropbox no longer works due to an excessive amount of bandwidth being used. We are now directing users to use the official Fedora repo now. For instructions on using this repo, please consult our wiki page located here.
For more information about MATE’s official inclusion in Fedora, see this page.
If you have any questions regarding moving from one repo to the other, please ask for help in #fedora-mate on irc.freenode.net. As always, general MATE questions can be asked in #mate.
The wiki does not list how to migrate Fedora 17 from using the dropbox repository to official repo.
Simple instruction on that would be nice addition.
This is a wrong information. It was only a temporarily problem. The repo is working well again since 10.12.2012.
And is it faster then ever.
You don’t have to migrate to fedora.
Warning:
A migration will makes your desktop unusable because packages are differrent.
Steve, why didn’t you talked with me before you publish bad information, which confused the users ????
i meant the repo is up again since 10.11.2012 !
USER INFO:
Using the original full version of MATE at dropbox will cause any error!
I added ‘epoch’ to version no. of the rpms.
That means if the dropbox repo is installed, yum will automatically choose the packages on the dropbox repo.
Warning:
Migration from dropbox repo to fedora repo will failed because of different mateconf scriptlets in rpms.
This will make the desktop unusable !
If you want to do this, you do it it for your own risk!
Hope this clear up confusion which was made by original information about fedora repo.
Can I switch from fedora to the dropbox repo?
I can install mate-desktop on fedora 18 (beta). Can you help me please?
I cannot……….
Any idea why there are no mate applets in Fedora? Like mutiload/system-monitor applet, sensor applet, etc.
They’re not included yet, but they’re one their way. See https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=885409
Still the system monitor and the libsensor applets are not there? Any play to include them too? Is monitoring bug 885409 the suggested way to have updates on that?
I think so. Fedora MATE maintainers are working on this.
hi you all.
I’m using mate 1.4.0 on my fedora 17, installed using the dropbox repo some months ago.
Now i want to upgrade to mate 1.5.x, and i have searched for the right repo on the internet.
Now, i have seen that teorically in the update-testing repo of fedora 17 is already available the 1.5.x release of mate, but if i enable the repo, the package manager doesn’t say me anything about an upgrade regarding mate.
Why?
Can i do anything?
Read raveit65′s comments above. The two repos don’t seem to be compatible, so the new one probably doesn’t see anything to update. If you switch, certain things may break, you may want to ask for the details on the forum.
He is fine here with debian wheezy.
So sbalneav on USENET told me to drop by.
I’ve got Fedora 17 running on an older PC I picked up for about $50 at one of the RE-PC in the Seattle area. It won’t give me the full Gnome 3 experience so it dropped back to a reserve default mode that I suppose is closer to Gnome 2, but that’s fine by me. I’m using it because my hardware also won’t run the latest Ubuntus and Mintses, and the older Debian stro’s that do run won’t pick up my wireless adaptor. So it’s a kludge, but that’s what the game’s all about. Anyway, hi.
