Congratulations for the beautiful work! Mate is lightweight, fast and easy to use. And best of all, it is based on gnome 2 that I really like.

Exactly! It’s 2013 and home desktop users have to find and hack some files just to change the icons sizes, etc. Ridiculous! Maybe Gnome 3 will be appropriate in a couple of years, but forcing it on users now is just like spitting them in the faces…

just one thing to say:
please, leave this desktop such as it is, dont try to overload it with usless things like it happened with gnome. it is simple, practical, and fast.
but if you do so, maintain the original mate, at least compability with new distributions

Hi,

I think BlackMate is awesome, but it is something strange with it. I mean:
When I open the “caja” file explorer, the central area (where folders and files are) is white and not black like in your screen-shot.

I’ve tried to change this white area to black but I can’t.

Please, can you help me?

Steve, Ron may have mentioned the startmenu bug here because he can’t find the bug report system for Mate. I know I sure can’t. I’ve scrubbed the website thoroughly and there’s nary a link I can find.

Please tell us all how to report bugs properly. Like almost everybody else here, I want MATE to keep on keepin’ on for years to come!

I just want to say “THANKS GUYS!”. MATE fits the bill, exactly. No more looking around for what used to be there, because it’s hidden or removed for my ‘safety’. My policy is to use the default apps e.g. Pluma until I need a missing feature, but I prefer Pluma to Geany. After the trauma with the loss of Gnome 2, I’m now with fully functional Mint systems with MATE as the DE. Excellent! Now using MATE+Mint on four machines.

I’m setting up an IT room for a charity and would dearly love to use MATE with LTSP, preferably on the MINT distro, for the desktops. I’m currently usnig Debian Squeeze with xfce, which is functional but not pretty. However, I’m having all kinds of problems getting LTSP and Mint/Mate to work properly (I’m now at the point where my thin clients boot and load their OSs, but when login is attempted, they return a “server not found” error and re-start.

Do you have a list of Distros you’ve successfully got MATE/LTSP running with, and can you recommend a recipe of distro/LTSP/MATE combination which will give me stable desktops?
