Stefano presents at openSUSE conference

On July 20th 2013 Stefano Karapetsas presented his talk on MATE at openSUSE Conference!

The talk introduces MATE to those who haven't heard of it, explains the reasons for creating MATE, explains the difference with GNOME Classic and GNOME Fallback sessions, and describes the features and changes added after the fork.

Changes to mate-notification-daemon

The mate-notification-daemon has a new feature in MATE 1.6 that allows users to select which monitor they want to display notifications on. The current behavior only displays notifications on the monitor which is currently active (where the pointer is). The behavior will default to as it has always been, but the user can change the settings by modifying the "use-active-monitor" and "monitor-number" keys in via dconf-editor or they can run mate-notification-properties and edit their settings via a GUI.

Below is a screenshot of mate-notification-properties set for notifications to be displayed on an active monitor. Note that "Use Active Monitor" is selected, which disables the combobox for selecting a monitor.

This will display on my third monitor, since counting starts at 0 instead of 1.

MATE package repository for Fedora

MATE package repository for Ubuntu Quantal

An Ubuntu package repository for Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal is now available for our 1.4 release. As usual, follow these instructions.

If you're upgrading from an older release please make sure that you remove the old repositories and add the new ones, otherwise you will encounter problems.

MATE 1.4 released

Fehler Melden

Momentan versuchen wir, alle Vorgänge zur Problembehandlung zum MATE-Desktop-Projekt auf GitHub zu verschieben, weg von Perberos' Seite. Der Grund ist einfach: Sollte Perberos das Projekt verlassen, könnte keine anderen Entwickler Problemtickets schließen. So entsteht ein ziemliches Durcheinander.

Wenn nun ein Fehler gemeldet werden soll, muss nun das korrekte GitHub-Repositorium ausgewählt werden, in dem das Problem gemeldet werden soll. Das ist sehr einfach. Gibt es einen Fehler im mate-panel, sollten Problemberichte zum mate-panel-Fehler-Tracker hinzugefügt werden.

Wir werden Perberos' Fehler-Tracker nicht länger verfolgen, daher bitten wir darum, dort keine neuen Fehler zu melden.

Neues Wiki und weitere Informationen

Kürzlich sind wir von einem Wiki auf GitHub zu unserem eigenen gewechselt, das unter wiki.mate-desktop.org erreichbar ist. Bitte beziehe dich ab jetzt auf dieses Wiki. Natürlich ist jeder willkommen, etwas beizutragen.

Für diejenigen, die es noch nicht wussten: Es ist möglich, Probleme auf GitHub zu melden. Momentan ist das die einzige Möglichkeit, Fehler zu melden, allerdings arbeiten wir an einem Bugtracker. Wir werden diesen hier ankündigen, wenn er fertig ist.

Außerdem planen wir für die Zukunft ein Mate-Forum, dieses ist aber in einer sehr frühen Phase.

Alle Debian-, Ubuntu- und Linux Mint-Nutzerinnen und -Nutzer können jetzt über das Tridex-Repository auf den 1.1.x-Entwicklungs-Paketzweig zugreifen. Weitere Informationen finden sich auf der Download-Seite des Wikis. In den Linux Mint befinden sich auch die Pakete der 1.0.x-Veröffentlichungsserie. Amanas PPA wird, falls dieses noch jemand nutzen sollte, nicht länger unterstützt. Die restlichen unserer 1.1.x-Veröffentlichungen wird in den Tridex- Repositories gehostet werden. Zukünftige Veröffentlichungen (zum Beispiel 1.2.0) werden hier gehostet werden.

Stolz können wir verkünden, dass die Paketierung für openSUSE begonnen hat. Sobald neue Informationen vorliegen, werden wir diese zu unserem Wiki hinzufügen und eine Nachricht veröffentlichen.

Zu guter Letzt sind eine Leute unserem IRC-Kanal beigetreten und haben nach Gentoo-Ebuilds für MATE gefragt. Diesbezüglich suchen wir nach Leuten, die sich bereit erklären könnten, diese aufzusetzen.
