On July 20th 2013 Stefano Karapetsas presented his talk on MATE at openSUSE Conference!

The talk introduces MATE to those who haven't heard of it, explains the reasons for creating MATE, explains the difference with GNOME Classic and GNOME Fallback sessions, and describes the features and changes added after the fork.

Changes to mate-notification-daemon

The mate-notification-daemon has a new feature in MATE 1.6 that allows users to select which monitor they want to display notifications on. The current behavior only displays notifications on the monitor which is currently active (where the pointer is). The behavior will default to as it has always been, but the user can change the settings by modifying the "use-active-monitor" and "monitor-number" keys in via dconf-editor or they can run mate-notification-properties and edit their settings via a GUI.

Below is a screenshot of mate-notification-properties set for notifications to be displayed on an active monitor. Note that "Use Active Monitor" is selected, which disables the combobox for selecting a monitor.

This will display on my third monitor, since counting starts at 0 instead of 1.

MATE package repository for Fedora

MATE package repository for Ubuntu Quantal

An Ubuntu package repository for Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal is now available for our 1.4 release. As usual, follow these instructions.

If you're upgrading from an older release please make sure that you remove the old repositories and add the new ones, otherwise you will encounter problems.

MATE 1.4 released

Added option to use fast alt-tabbing when compositing is enabled in marco

Caja improvements:
- Restored toggle button for text based location bar
- Bookmarks can now be opened in the places side pane via the enter and space keys

Reportando Errores

Actualmente estamos en el proceso de cambiar para manejar todos nuestros problemas a través del [proyecto mate-desktop en GitHub] (https://github.com/mate-desktop) en lugar de la página de Perberos. La razón es simple: cuando Perberos está ausente, ninguno de los otros desarrolladores pueden cerrar tickets. Esto crea un poco de lío.

Ahora, cuando vaya a informar un error, debe elegir el repositorio de GitHub correcto para informar el problema. Es bastante simple. Si hay un error con mate-panel, luego envíe el problema al seguidor de problemas de mate-panel.

Ya no supervisaremos el seguidor de problemas de Perberos, por lo que le pedimos que se abstenga de abrir nuevos errores allí.

Nueva wiki y otras informaciones

Recientemente hemos cambiado de una wiki en [GitHub] (https://github.com/) a una propia disponible en [wiki.mate-desktop.org] (https://wiki.mate-desktop.org/#!index.md). Por favor haga referencia a esta wiki de ahora en adelante. Naturalmente, cualquiera puede contribuir.

Para aquellos de ustedes que aún no lo saben, pueden [informar problemas en github] (https://github.com/mate-desktop/). Por el momento, esto es todo lo que tenemos en términos de informes de errores, pero tenemos un rastreador de errores en proceso. Lo anunciaremos aquí cuando esté listo.

También tenemos planes futuros para un foro de Mate, pero eso se encuentra en una etapa muy temprana.

Para aquellos de ustedes que usan [Debian] (https://www.debian.org/), [Ubuntu] (https://www.ubuntu.com), y [Linux Mint] (https://www.linuxmint.com), puede acceder a la rama de desarrollo 1.1.x de nuestros paquetes usando el repositorio tridex.
