MATE Desktop Environment is totally free and all developers are volunteers. The only thing that requires money is to pay for our servers. For this, we now accept small donations to support those expenses.

All donations will be listed here, together with hosting costs.

  1. Pingback: Linux Mint 13 – MATE Edition – is a supreme success!

  2. I just want to say, thanks so much for this project. I got stuck on Linux Mint 11 / similar generation Linux distros due to the absolute monstrosity that is Gnome 3 and Unity.

I wouldnt want to use MATE for my touchpad or smartphone… but why did the Gnome developers make such a mess, and left us people with actual computers with no decent desktop?

I think MATE may be one of the most influential things that has happened for Linux for a long time. For me, it has allowed me to upgrade from my old Linux distro, and keep a proper, mature desktop, and has prevented me from going to Mac which would have been a huge retrograde step.

Look out for my donation coming after payday in 5 days time :D can we give bigger donations? I certainly would be happy to do so; I think this project is vital to the whole Linux community!

Thank you so much guys :)

  3. The most stable desktop. I use mint 13 and with mate it never hangs. I love that the calender has still “places” where you can see timezones. Congratulations. We have now already six computers with mate in our firm.

  4. Hi guys!

I’ve just made a donation (not a very big one! sorry!) because I really appreciate your work!

You saved me from the pain of using that ugly thing that is Gnome 3! :D

    Thank you!

  5. Just wanted to say, that I am enjoying having MATE on my Fedora 17 installation. I enjoy it far better than the default Gnome 3 and KDE installations and it provides a bit more functionality than LXDE (Although I don’t mind LXDE too much).

But either way, thanks for the great work and for giving a Red Hat/Fedora user a better option! Installation was smooth and painless. 1 download (yum repo install), 1 yum command and a reboot. Bam, up and going in 15 min or less.

  6. Thank you!
    Donation is on its way.

I felt in love with linux on ubuntu 10.11. Since then my Desktop experience only declined. And the gnome-shell fallback solution is a buggy mess.
I gave them all a chance: xcfe, lxde, kde, openBox, gnome3, even unity. I never again felt the warm “at home” felling i experienced at my first launch of ubuntu. Now you gave me back the smooth, easy, out-of-the-box intuitive feeling of gnome2.

  7. Finally! After this Gnome 3 nightmare with removing all essential features to the desktop environment, here comes the help!

I am a scientist, I need to make things done.
If I would like to have pretty user interface, watch animations and do everything by clicking all over the screen, I would buy a smartphone! On the computer I need productivity, i.e., quick operations with keyboard and status of all workspaces and windows available to me all the time.
    Thanks guys!

  8. I just LOVE MATE DE. I’m using it with Nota Linux and Compiz and Emerald Theme maker. Just like back in Ubuntu 10.04. I love it! This is my 2nd donation.

If possible could you make a right click in Caja (in pictures) folder to say, “Set As Wallpaper” like Nautilus used to? That would be so nice.

    Thanks again,

    Bill

  9. I’ll vote with my wallet, a donation is on its way. Every time I use Gnome 3 or Unity frustration rises and productivity drops. Using mate is like putting a comfortable pair of shoes.

  10. Thank you for your wonderful work. I switched from Ubuntu 12.10 to Linux Mint 14 for my MacBook Pro, and I must say I really love MATE. Keep the good work!

  11. Hello,

my company would be happy to grant the mate team dedicated server or cloud ressources to support and thank you to give us the best desktop back!
Please feel free to drop me a mail with requirements and I personal will see that you receive our support.

    Best Regards
    Martin Verges

  12. I wish I could donate more. When my stock options sell, I will make certain I give Mate a fair share because you guys have saved my sanity.

    Thank you for everything,
    Josh

  13. Thank you guys for your hard work! I am using linux for 12 years (IT/developer) and MATE desktop saves my time these days and lets me use RDP+ssh to access multiple linux servers. Unity is incompatible with RDP(Ubuntu 12.10) and even when I tried to use VNC+Unity it actually overusing the network bandwidth with all its extra bells and whistles. I vote (by donating) for MATE desktop (thnaks to its simplicity and ease to use)!

  14. i like Linux Mint MATE because is simple in functions is optimized and fast, unity and gnome 3 is very terrible, they do not think do that mistake

  15. Grazie per questo progetto, io e i miei due pc ringraziamo!
(mate su Kubuntu 12.04 e Mint 14 Nadia)

    continuate così!!!!!! :-)

  16. I’ve been using Ubuntu 10.04 with Gnome 2 till the end of the support period – 1 Apr 2013. Since that time I was searching for distro that could provide me with similar usability. CentOS and Debian still ship Gnome 2 but their fonts look very poor on my three large monitors. I tried installing FreeType and TrueType fonts but still they were looking worse than in Ubuntu.

And since today I will be using xubuntu 12.10 with MATE installed. Thank you for supporting it!!! Do not let Gnome 2 usability principles die! My donation follows…

  17. Classics will always be a classic!
Gnome 2 was the best environment for your daily work!
    Do not drop this project!

    Thanks! + $10

  18. Mate is great. I am willing to donate some money for it. Just wondering if no one donotated or the donar list is not update?
